The iPhone 5 represented a major overhaul in Apple’s design, they had moved from the previous 3.5-inch iPhone 4s to a 4-inch model. What’s more, it was unlike any other smartphone’s expansion because, instead of stretching the device all around, it was only spread vertically, giving it a thin elongated profile. That made the design unique and also usable in one hand with ease. So, we have an overhaul in design, but how did that perform in other aspects:

Display

iPhone displays have always been superb, no doubt about that, and the company chose to keep their IPS LCD display, only now it had a 640 x 1136-pixel resolution and 326ppi (pixels per inch). The display is excellent and still beats most smartphones in terms of clarity, with the only caveat being the 4-inch limit. Some people don’t mind the small display, while that might be a turnoff to most people; the choice depends on how you use your device.

Camera

Although Apple still maintained an 8MP camera similar to its predecessor, they introduced new technology that made the new camera way better. By increasing the pixel size to 1.4 microns and the aperture to f/2.4, the camera could take better pictures in low light because more light could be detected. To date, this camera can still be used for general pictures, but you wouldn’t want to use them commercially due to the low pixel count.

Body

Apple got everything right with the design, the 4-inch display comfortable fits into an aluminium body. At the back, there is glass at the top and bottom to allow for network signals, but these are usually the first to crack upon impact. Nevertheless, the iPhone 5 feels premium in the hand and certainly one device you wouldn’t mind holding for a long time. At the bottom, Apple did away with the thick 12-pin connector and replaced it with a smaller, reversible connector.

Features

Running everything is the Apple A6 chip which is capable of handling ‘heavy’ apps. However, it’s still a 32-bit processor yet more and more apps are being tailored to the new 64-bit processors. This means you may have a little trouble running the latest apps and games, but not so much.

Storage

You can get this device in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants; choose wisely here, because there is no expandable storage and what you get is all you will ever have. The RAM is also quite small at 1GB, but iOS has never needed much RAM and the device still runs very smoothly.

Battery

The battery on the iPhone 5 is quite small, 1,440mAh, but for a 4-inch device it’s still enough. However, iPhones don’t have the best record with battery life, and this one isn’t any different, you would be lucky to get through the day without recharging, but guaranteed you would have to charge the device every single day.

Standard warranty

This is the basic type of warranty automatically applied to all products. It covers issues of faulty items within the period of the warranty and any replacements or repairs done will be free of charge.

If the item stops working after some time, contact us immediately for support. Some issues can be quickly solved by our technical staff over the phone in which case further assistance isn’t necessary. If not, send the product to us via mail if you are far away or bring it yourself to our office.

Repairs may take time if the parts are not available locally but most of the time the repairs only take a few days. Once completed, we will contact you to collect the product or just mail it back to you.

When you receive your product and it doesn’t work, this is classified as a dead-on-arrival situation. In this case, return the product back to us within 7 days since purchasing it and receive an immediate replacement.

Extended warranty

For further protection, an extended warranty covers more problems for added peace of mind. A 6-month extended warranty costs $50+gst and covers problems that may occur as a result of normal usage. These may include:

1. Wear and tear coverage: it’s easy to distinguish a new device from a used one based on the external wear signs. Further wear and tear occurs inside as a result of dust and moisture, which may lead to problems down the road.
2. On-site service: for bulky items, we come to you and offer our services hence saving you time and money.
3. No lemon guarantee: if you have already had the product repaired 2 times, the next time you face a problem, we will replace the entire product and avoid future problems.
4. $1,200 replacement: for repairs costing upwards of $1,200, the item will just be replaced with the same exact specifications to save time.
5. Countrywide coverage: this warranty offers you guaranteed service from any service centre or repair technician across Australia provided they deal with electronics.
6. Transferrable: this warranty is transferrable in case you sell it of give it away. Just remember to send us a proof of transfer such as a receipt and contacting our customer care service team.
7. Health check: just like a medical checkup, you can send the product to us to examine any possibilities of an error with the parts.
