ANDROID FOR PROFESSIONALS September 09 2015, 0 Comments

Despite the fun and somewhat childish names given to android versions: Jellybean, KitKat, Gingerbread, it is still a very serious system; meaning even the most humorless professionals can make use of Android. You will notice this same lighthearted attitude in most things android, which reflects their culture, but there’s no compromise on delivering quality products.

If smartphones changed our perception of social networking, then tablets revolutionized the way we handle business. Now, you will rarely see people on their laptops in meetings or on a plane, instead they’re holding a laptop to take care of business, no pun intended.  Their use in business has affected most professions and I’m just going to mention a few, so in case you’re one of them and still only work with your computer…

Architects

I’m going to start with this because it is a passion of mine, I just like structures. Architectural operations are usually very delicate and it isn’t uncommon to find workers at a construction site hurdled around a laptop to receive instructions from the Architect. Now, though, most of these operations can be done on a tablet which is far easier to carry around than a laptop.

Apps such as AutoCAD 360 can be used to create and modify floor plans, though you might not be able to get as much details. It is still useful for those emergency moments and can really save your skin.

Photographers

You can take pictures with your phone or tablet! Okay, that isn’t much of news, you already knew that, but what you do afterwards matters to a professional photographer. While most would be content with default adjustments on most devices, a professional would make use of Photoshop to turn a regular selfies into a billboard poster. Again, this can be a great way to impress potential clients, market yourself and practice different stuff.

For presentations, documents editing, etc.

There isn’t just one profession that has to prepare Office Documents, we have all had to at some point, so I thought I would include all of us. I can’t even recall the number of times I have had to edit a document at the last minute in college before presenting it in class. Now imagine a Marketing Officer preparing a presentation for the company’s latest marketing strategy. Now that’s an actual lifesaver.

There are a number of such apps on the Play Store such as Polaris Office, which is free, and Quickoffice, although you might have to pay for it.

What else?

I am sure there are plenty more apps for various professions that I didn’t even know about. The bottom line, however, is, you can maximize the potential of your device and maybe soothe the pinch from the dent it caused on your wallet to buy it.
