S6 vs. Xperia Z5

May 10, 2016

Both look very similar in design, and they were released 6 months apart, so, is the one released later any better? After all Sony had 6 months to perfect their design. Let's look at the differences between the Galaxy S6 and the Xperia Z5:

They're both designed from glass and metal, so there isn't much of a difference. However, the Xperia Z5 has an SD card slot which allows for expandable memory. This is a major difference because you can fit a lot more into your Z5 at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, the Z5 has IP68 certification meaning it is dust and water resistance. Just the thought of taking pictures underwater gives a huge advantage to the Xperia Z5.

The S6 has a 16MP camera while the Xperia Z5 has a 21MP camera. Right off the bat, Sony beats Samsung, but it's not over. Where Samsung claims plenty of camera features, the Xperia Z5 also has a number of them, cutting any advantage the S6 may have had. In this category, there is no doubt the Xperia has the far superior camera in every aspect.

The Xperia Z5 has excellent, excellent, battery life. The addition of the Stamina modes on the device allow you to stretch the battery life well past 3 days with moderate use, making the device one of the best in battery life. Perhaps, the fact that it only has a full-HD display compared to the quad-HD display on the S6 helps a lot, but I am certainly fine with it.

Sony stick to the tried, tested and proven full-HD display which is significantly less than the Galaxy S6's quad-HD display. However, you can hardly notice a difference in quality between the two because Sony's X-reality Engine compensates for the reduces number of pixels. Granted, the Galaxy S6's screen is magnificent, but that isn't enough to give it much of a boost.

Which one wins?

I hate to say it, but the Xperia Z5 outdoes the Galaxy S6 by far. It is enough to thaw a Samsung fan such as myself and maybe even the Samsung CEO himself. Luckily, the South Korean company took notes and rectified their shortcomings with the Galaxy S7. For the meantime, though, Xperia Z5 beats the Galaxy S6.
